Welcome to the Sunday Scene

6 July 2008

Greetings,

As the saying goes, “nothing is for ever,” and so it is with Sunday Scene Breakfast Clubs! After three years of intense activity we’ve decided that the current clubs will be the last and that it’s now time to concentrate on taking the website to a whole new level.

SSBCs as they have become affectionately known, have helped one hundred and twenty people in this area to manage the grief of widowhood in a positive and pro-active way; making new friends, developing an independent social life and supporting each other in the various challenges each has faced. Each social club that’s evolved (SSSC) will continue to flourish with future activities co-ordinated through the website and there will be much inter-club activity.

I am so proud to have led this unique initiative; to have met and made friends with many wonderful people and am very grateful for all the love and support I’ve received throughout.

At the end of July our current SSBCs will merge with two active SSSCs, in September at our AGM, the voluntary organisation will be wound up and from then on I’ll be totally focused on making the website as inter-active and informative as I possibly can. We already have many site visitors and with the use of current web technology, plan to reach out to many more widowed people in the future.

Underpinning the website raison d’être is the desire to raise the profile of widowed people and to highlight the general lack of support available during this major life transition. I hope it will also become an international resource for anyone at all who is experiencing widowhood or is seeking to support someone who has been widowed.

Much priceless experience and knowledge has been gained from running SSBCs and SSSCs and this will soon be available in the form of a ‘Start-up Pack’ for anyone one who would like to set up something similar. Meanwhile, you can find a free sheet of ten tips on starting your own club, in the ‘Hints’ section.

Look out for exciting changes in the future, maybe even a new website name!
