Monthly Editorial - February 07

Hello again,

What a busy few weeks it’s been since my first Editorial!

We know that many people have already visited the website and really value the comments you forward to us. As a result, our webmaster has made a few techi changes and we’re endeavouring to find a chat room facility that’s more reliable. I know some of you have had difficulty registering and logging on, for which we can only apologise, and we’ll rectify the problem just as quickly as possible. Things are now in place for us to start developing the site so we invite you to visit it regularly and to let us know what you think.

The Sunday Scene Breakfast Clubs (SSBCs) in West Sussex are very active, with a new group starting in Chichester, another at a new venue in Angmering and a further development, the birth of Sunday Scene Social Club, a spin off from the previous Chichester group. We anticipate that this is the way the clubs will now continue to evolve.

With more people involved, we’re now able to organize inter-group activities that all members can attend, so our social circle and activities continue to expand. An hilarious ten pin bowling session, opera and poetry reading evenings, folk and classical concerts, theatre trips and meals out have featured very strongly this month and there’s plenty for folks to choose from. With spring just around the corner all kinds of other opportunities are presenting themselves, whilst a bit of ‘blue sky’ thinking is turning our thoughts to an autumn break.

As a result of recent publicity, we’ve received many calls from people who’ve been widowed outside of our three years criteria. Whilst having come to terms with their loss, they continue to have difficulty in re-building a social life. Why not let us know what’s worked for you and we can share it (see the Research Topics page).

I leave you with this delightful quotation -

Living the past is a dull and lonely business, looking back strains the neck muscles, causes you to bump into people not going your way.

Edna Ferber (1887 –1968)
