Welcome to the Sunday Scene
Sunday Scene Breakfast Clubs Gain National Recognition
For the last two years, many of my waking hours have been spent ‘growing’ the concept of Sunday Scene Breakfast Clubs (SSBCs). Along the way there have been some challenges, calling for patience, tolerance, creativity and innovation but for most of the time it’s been a total joy, especially in the knowledge that out of the grief and loneliness of widowhood has come something positive, useful, fulfilling and rewarding.
Two groups have now ‘graduated’ from Sunday Scene Breakfast Clubs to form their own social clubs organized by willing founder members; two new SSBCs group have started; we now use two venues and plan to open more; our beautiful, user friendly website is up and running and a training programme for volunteer club facilitators is in place. All this has been achieved in just sixteen months with modest subscriptions and a huge input of subsidies, time and effort by dedicated volunteers.
In the latter part of last year, determined to do all we could to make SSBCs and information about widow and widowerhood available to more people, we put a considerable amount of effort into obtaining funding from a variety of sources and our efforts have now borne fruit.
We are delighted to announce sponsorship for the year 2007 by the following organizations –
Awards For All, Big Lottery
Chichester District Council Environmental Health Services
The Chownes Foundation
West Sussex County Council, Adults’ Services Littlehampton.
What’s that saying about little acorns and oak trees!
