Bach Flower Remedies
Dr. Edward Bach, a renowned physician, practiced in Harley Street for over twenty years before giving up his practice in 1930 to devote his time to finding flower remedies that would aid the sick and ailing in restoring their vitality and assisting in their own healing. It was Dr. Bach’s belief that an unsettled state of mind, such as worry, fear or depression, only served to hinder the return to good health.
Initially there were twelve Remedies referred to as the ‘twelve healers’ but the pharmacopoeia eventually listed a total of thirty eight. With the exception of Rock Water, each is derived from the wild flowers of indigenous plants, bushes or trees, and are prescribed or self-selected according to the sufferer’s state of mind rather than for any physical ailment. None of the Remedies is harmful or habit forming, and neither do they interfere with any other treatment.
Bach Rescue Remedy
Bach Rescue Remedy combines five of the Remedies. In his book ‘The Twelve Healers and Other Remedies,’ Dr. Bach writes, “The purpose of the composite Remedy is to treat pre or post emotional trauma through shock, great fear or terror, panic, severe mental stress and tension, a feeling of desperation or a numb or bemused state of mind.”
This composite remedy is easily accessible and may well be beneficial in helping ourselves through the grief and pain of widow and widower-hood.
The Remedy, which is generally diluted in spring water and preserved in brandy, is available from whole food shops and chemists and should be prepared and taken under the tongue or in liquid as directed on the label. Bach Rescue Pastilles are also available.
Therapy
Whilst it is perfectly possible to self select Remedies by studying appropriate publications in the knowledge of ones own personal state of mind, dedicated Bach Flower Remedy therapists practice in many areas of the UK and can tailor Remedies to suit the individual.
